MSP visits Ayr office to find out how people in her constituency are being helped into employment

Siobhian Brown MSP was guest of honour at Fedcap Scotland to find out how people in her constituency are being helped into employment.

The MSP visited Fedcap Scotland’s-newly opened Ayr office in Carrick Street to meet with the team dedicated to helping local people into sustainable jobs through Fair Start Scotland, the Scottish Government devolved employment support service.

She also met with a customer from Ukraine who was helped into a role in November, as well as a national employer who has already taken on 20 Fedcap customers with plans to recruit dozens more.

Ms Brown met with Marwan Nigro, a Libyan who was living with his wife and two young children in Odesa, Ukraine, when Russian forces invaded. After making their way to Scotland they settled in Ayr where Marwan – a doctor in Ukraine - approached Fedcap to look for work.

Within two months he was offered a carer role with Heathfield House Care Home looking after adults with dementia.

The MSP then chatted with Lynne Griffiths, Senior Recruitment Business Partner with Teleperformance UK, who has taken on 20 Fedcap Scotland customers over the last few months with plans to recruit more in coming weeks.

Siobhian Brown MSP said: “I’d like to thank Fedcap Scotland for speaking with me at their Ayr office. The organisation does fantastic work in helping people find employment.

“It was also a privilege to speak to Marwan and hear his inspirational story.”

Susan Paterson, Operations Director for Fedcap Scotland, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Siobhian Brown to our Ayr office. We share the same ambitions for local people to find sustainable employment and I’m delighted that she was able to meet with customers and employers to see how Fedcap Scotland puts this into action.”
