Daniel had been out of work for several months due to low self-confidence.

Fair Start Scotland supported Daniel to believe in himself, and he found his first full-time job after being out of work for several months. He would recommend the service to anyone who is struggling to find work.

Why Daniel joined Fair Start Scotland

Daniel joined the service having been out of work for several months. He had previous experience in security as well as call centre and retail work. His main struggle within employment was his confidence in the workplace. It is an issue that Daniel himself had identified and he was open to any activities that would help him in this regard. He was struggling to get back into work and was looking to develop his self-belief.

How Fair Start Scotland helped

Daniel thoroughly enjoyed his weekly engagement with his key workers, which he felt he needed. He was supported with updating his CV and applying for jobs. He was sent a daily job board via email each morning which had a breakdown of various new job vacancies. He appreciated the daily emails and weekly phone calls as he said he “never felt forgotten about”. In a previous role, he had struggled with administrative tasks, so we signed him up to some courses through the Digital College. After some unsuccessful job applications, Daniel felt disheartened. But because the team at Fair Start never gave up on him, he didn’t give up on himself.

Daniel managed to secure a full-time role and he was over the moon as it was an immediate start which he was not expecting. Daniel continues to be supported by his key workers who supported him with funding for his commute to work, and he said he would not have been able to attend without this support. He is now being contacted regularly by in-work support and knows he can come to us at any time if he requires any assistance at all. He feels reassured that he has the support there, should he need it.

What’s next?

Daniel will shortly complete his in-house training and his goal is to continue working within his current role for as long as possible. He is looking forward to receiving his first wage and experience the benefits of some financial freedom again. He looks forward to his weekly in work support calls and is always happy to hear a familiar voice.

Daniel would like to thank everyone at Fair Start Scotland, who helped to keep him motivated throughout his job search. He would not have had the confidence that he has now without the help of Fair Start Scotland and feels we have always gone that extra mile and been that extra support he needed, particularly when encouraging him not to give up on his search for employment. Daniel would strongly recommend the Fair Start Scotland programme to anyone who is struggling to find work.
