Your dedicated personal adviser will be with your every step of the way - helping you work through your barriers and challenges to help you make the transition back into the workplace.

You will get:
 

  • a personalised action plan to help you meet your goals 

  • access to a wide range of specialist support if required such as health and wellbeing, basic skills, personal development and lots more

  • the opportunity to gain accredited and vocational qualifications such as Level 1 City and Guilds in ICT, customer services and much more

  • support to help you build on your existing skills and attributes to develop a professionally formatted CV

  • help with searching and applying for jobs

  • help with preparing for an interview such as interview coaching and conducting mock interviews

  • the chance to take part in suitable work placements, work trials or volunteering opportunities

  • the support you need to help you back to work

  • support from our employer services team to help you find a job to meet your needs 

  • the self-confidence you need to progress in work
     

To help you get the job you want, make sure you do your own preparation, such as:
 

  • research the company

  • practise an interview scenario with a family member or friend

  • think of questions you want to ask the employer about the job or company.
     

Remember, an interview is a two-way conversation between you and the employer – you need to find out as much as you can about the job to see if it's something that is of interest to you.

When you go for an interview just remember that first impressions count, show an interest and be enthusiastic.

New referrals to Scottish Government’s national Fair Start Scotland (FSS) employability service have ended.

 

Current Fair Start Scotland customers will continue to receive the full range of employability support they need from StartScotland to move into work, which could include up to 18 months pre-work and up to 12 months in work support (depending on your circumstances). 

 

From 1 April 2024, No One Left Behind, Scottish Government & Local Governments’ shared approach to delivering an all-age, place-based, person-centred model of employability support in Scotland, will receive referrals previously referred to StartScotland.
